My Work

Freelance

In 2006 I moved back home to East Anglia and went freelance. Since then, I've designed, developed and hosted websites ranging from local jewellers and restaurants to national Amateur Dramatic and UK tourist information sites. Additionally I've been contracted to:

  • Selesti, Norfolk

Built a new multi-site platform for a major magazine publisher and helped create a sporting gaming service for another client.

  • Grolier, Norfolk

Developed and integrated XML applications for their online and telephone payment systems.

  • E2, Norfolk

Worked in a team on several eco-friendly websites for green product comparisons and environmentally aware travel.

  • Silvertap, Norfolk

Designed and built an Affiliate Management System to record large scale advertising traffic and allow affiliates and agencies to track and manage all this information. Led the team tasked with maintaining and developing the system further.

  • Angel Podiatry, Suffolk

Designed and built a Practice Management System for the business to allow the management of patients, appointments, medical records and the day-to-day running of a surgery over their intranet.

Fulltime

Shortly after the dawn of the modern internet era (when we had an excuse for table-based layouts and 1x1 shims), I served my "web apprenticeship" with these companies:

  • Freeserve, London

Built and coded functionality for Freeserve's portal and associated sites. Projects ranged from creating new site sections with Spectra to developing standalone applications for internal use. Used source-control software in a close-knit team of developers and designers, communicating with project managers in order to produce project specifications and clear technical and user documentation.

  • The Reading Room, London

Built and coded functionality for over 30 websites and was otherwise involved in another 20. Handled projects from initial client meetings through to launch. Typically took Photoshop designs and built HTML site templates and then coded Cold Fusion or PHP functionality for the site. Additional database design & use and server setup where required.

  • BT Research Labs, Suffolk

Worked as the intranet website designer, coder, editor and maintainer for the Research Labs. This comprised of investigating the demands of both employees and management, producing a range of draft and final sites, and keeping everything up-to-date and useful.
